The 2024 Nissan Sentra Cup Finale takes place this weekend!
The Nissan Sentra Cup season finale will take place in Ontario this weekend, for the first time in its history. Calabogie Motorsports Park, located southwest of Ottawa, will host the eleventh and twelfth races of the season, which will determine the new champion.
Calabogie has previously hosted the Micra Cup, but for Nissan Sentra Cup drivers, this will be a first. Both races scheduled for this weekend will take place as part of the first edition of the Fall Classic Weekend. Five drivers can theoretically claim the 2024 title: 2022 champion Valérie Limoges, Nicolas Barrette, Simon Vincent, 2023 defending champion Alexandre Fortin, and Matthieu Miron. For him, being in the lead depends on whether the series officials lift his exclusion from races 9 and 10.
Valérie Limoges is the favourite, having won four out of 10 races this season. She leads the standings by more than 20 points over Nicolas Barrette, who has one victory but consistently finishes near the top. Simon Vincent, a rally competition specialist, has been very successful since his debut in the Nissan Sentra Cup. He won one of the races at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park less than three weeks ago and knows the Calabogie track well. Vincent appears to have the skills to challenge Limoges and Barrette, but he is more than 50 points behind them in the championship standings. Vincent must therefore win at Calabogie and hope that his competitors do not finish in the Top 5.
In addition to this five-driver battle for the title, which promises to captivate fans, several other drivers will also be podium contenders. These include Éric Chaput, who achieved his very first pole position in the series at Calabogie in the Micra era and won his first race at the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières last month, Nicolas Miron (Matthieu’s brother), Nicolas Lévesque, and Frédérick Chaput (Éric’s son), to name a few.
For these last two races of the season, Calabogie Motorsports short track (2.7km) will be used. Leaders will need to manage backmarker traffic throughout the two 40-minute races, with the first race on Saturday and the second on Sunday
This 2024 Fall Classic Weekend will also feature the Super Production Challenge series for two days of action, hopefully under the sun. The Nissan Sentra Cup drivers will be on track Saturday morning for two free practice sessions, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and from 10:50 a.m. to 11:20 a.m. Qualifying for Race 1 will take place from 12:20 p.m. to 12:50 p.m., and the first event of the weekend, Round 11 of the 2024 championship, will run from 3:15 p.m. to 3:55 p.m.
On Sunday, September 29, the day will begin with the qualification for the second race from 9:50 a.m. to 10:20 a.m., leading up to the grand finale of the season from 12:30 p.m. to 1:10 p.m.
