Nissan Sentra Cup kicks off second half of 2024 season at Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières
- Five drivers are serious contenders for the title heading into the 2024 GP3R, a popular event with fans and competitors -
After a successful debut in the United States at the Lime Rock SpeedTour two weeks ago, the Nissan Sentra Cup will return to Canadian tracks for its next event. The second half of the season will kick off at the popular Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres August 9, 10 and 11 with five drivers clearly displaying their ambitions for the 2024 title. Rounds 7 and 8 of the 10th Nissan Sentra Cup season will be held in front of the always packed GP3R grandstands. For fans who cannot attend on site, both races will be broadcast live on the series’ Facebook page, Coupe Nissan Sentra Cup.
For the first time in the series, the fifty-fourth edition of the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières will only feature Sentras on the track. That, coupled with the action-packed season so far, promises fans plenty of thrill as Valérie Limoges, already a two-time GP3R winner and 2022 Nissan Sentra Cup champion, attempts to collect a third victory this year. If she wins at GP3R, she would be the first female driver in the tracks history to do so, all series combined. Limoges currently leads the drivers’ championship with very slim lead over Alexandre Fortin, the defending champion, and Nicolas Barrette, who is tied for second. Rally champion Simon Vincent, as well as Mathieu Miron, who won his first two series races at Lime Rock, are also serious contenders for the title. These five drivers could take the lead in the championship at the end of this event.
While the show promises to be exceptional on track, fans are also welcome in the Nissan Sentra Cup paddock to meet their favourite drivers, but also to discover the 100% electric Nissan LEAF Nismo RC prototype. The vehicle will be on display under the Nissan Canada tent with its new wrap that pays homage to Nissan’s 2024 victories in the Formula E World Championship. At the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières, the paddock is open to all spectators with an admission ticket. The Nissan Sentra Cup will be in the centre of the paddocks, easily accessible to all spectators.
Created in 1967, the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières is a tradition in Canada’s motorsport’s world. Legendary drivers such as Gilles Villeneuve, Jacques Villeneuve, Patrick Tambay, Alan Jones and 1976 Formula 1 world champion James Hunt, whose son Freddie Hunt drove in the Nissan Sentra Cup at the 2022 GP3R, have competed there over the years. For the 2024 Nissan Sentra Cup drivers, a victory on the temporary Trois-Rivières street circuit, lined with concrete walls and on which the slightest mistake can be critical, is therefore a precious trophy to obtain.
The Nissan Sentra Cup will be in action four times throughout the weekend. The free practice session will take place on Friday starting at 1:30 p.m. followed by qualifying for both races at 4:15 p.m. On Saturday, the first race, Round 7 of the 2024 Nissan Sentra Cup season, will be contested from 11:00 a.m. to 11:40 a.m. Finally, on Sunday, August 11, the green flag for the second race will be waved at 11:15 a.m., again for 40 minutes of racing. Livestream both races on the Nissan Sentra Cup Facebook page, Coupe Nissan Sentra Cup.
