Nissan Sentra Cup announces its 2023 race schedule
- 6 events at 4 different racetracks for the third season of the series' history -
Nissan Canada and Nissan Sentra Cup organizers today announced the official 2023 schedule for the Canadian Motorsport Series, which will feature six events with two races at each, across four venues in Québec and Ontario.
Since 2017, at the time of the Nissan Micra Cup, all the way to 2022, the season has always started in Ontario. This year, it will begin at the Circuit Mont-Tremblant, as part of the Spring Classic event from May 26 to 28. This track hosted the Nissan Micra Cup’s first ever event in 2015.
After the Spring Classic at Circuit Mont-Tremblant, there will be the Grand Prix Nissan at Complexe ICAR, a new event which will see the competitors of the series compete in two races in a single day on Sunday July 9th.
Races 5 and 6 will then be presented during the always popular Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières for the 53rd edition, from August 4 to 6. It will certainly be another important event for the drivers, who will reach the mid-season point after the Sunday’s race, but also for the thousands of fans who are excited to see the Nissan Sentra Cup on the temporary street and technical racetrack of Trois-Rivières.
At the end of August, the series will return to Complexe ICAR, located on the grounds of Montréal-Mirabel International Airport. This time it will take place during an event featuring the Canadian NASCAR Pinty's Series. Once again, two races will take place, on Saturday August 26th.
Less than a week later, Canadian Tire Motorsport Park will host the series at its traditional event presented on Canadian Labour Day Weekend, September 1-3. This will provide an opportunity for the Ontarian fans to see the Nissan Sentra Cup in action in their province on the famous and very fast track formerly known as Mosport. Canadian Tire Motorsport Park hosted eight editions of the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Canada.
After two events in two weekends, a short break will await the competitors before returning to the Circuit Mont-Tremblant for the grand finale of the season. The Fall Classic has hosted every final round of the series since its launch.
The Nissan Sentra Cup debuted on Canadian road courses in 2021 and was an immediate success among competitors and fans with no less than 36 drivers competing in the season, before reaching a record 43 participants last year. Experienced drivers, like the 2022 champion Valérie Limoges who will be back to defend her title this season, young and ambitious drivers who will try to clinch a first Series’ championship such as Simon Charbonneau and Alexandre Fortin, ranked second and third in the 2022 championship, or even Senior class drivers, over 40 years old, and motorsport rookies, the Nissan Sentra Cup attracts drivers from everywhere.
For Steve Milette, President of Nissan Canada, it is great to see that the series is still so successful and continues to grow, "The 2022 season was exceptional in terms of participants and track action, and I am looking forward to seeing the Sentras on Canadian tracks again and reuniting with the Nissan Sentra Cup family. I am also very happy to announce that RDS network will present for a third year in a row at all of the races this season.”
“We have listened to the drivers’ wishes who wanted to compete on at least four different racetracks and in events where the Nissan Sentra Cup is considered one of the star series, giving sponsors and team’s great visibility and a lot of track time for drivers. I am very proud of this schedule,” mentioned Jacques Deshaies, of JD Promotion & Compétition, the promoter of the series.
The complete list of entries for the 2023 season will be published in the spring. For more information on the Nissan Sentra Cup, visit sentracup.com as well as the series' social media @nissansentracup. To watch all the events of the 2022 season, visit the Nissan Sentra Cup YouTube page.
